This Activity builds from the preceding activity (Activity 2).  Having studied the illustrations in both books, Deserts & Wild Horse Annie: Friend of the Mustangs, and also generating descriptive language about those illustrations, students are now in a position to create their own painting and poem using techniques from Picturing Writing.  Yahooo… 😊

  • Writing (Conventions of Standard English): Explain the function of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in general and their functions in particular sentences; form and use prepositional phrases; produce complete sentences recognizing and correcting inappropriate fragments and run-ons.  
  • Writing (Knowledge of Language): Choose words and phrases for effect.  
  • Writing (Vocabulary Acquisition and Use): Consult reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses, both print and digital, to find the pronunciation and determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases.
